The Independent Office for Police (IOPC) continue to investigate Avon and Somerset Police regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of Tamzin Hall, a 17 year old female. The IOPC previously reported that Tamzin had been under arrest and handcuffed when she was in the back of the police car when the car stopped on the M5 for safety reasons. Tamzin fled the police car and was sadly struck and killed by a car on the M5. Tamzin’s death has sparked questions around police conduct and Avon and Somerset police completed a mandatory referral to the IOPC.

Evidence has already been collected, such as body worn video, witness statements and CCTV footage and it has now been reported that the police officers involved have been served misconduct notices. The misconduct notices advise officers that their conduct is subject to investigation but does not mean that any disciplinary proceedings will necessarily follow.

Police misconduct can stem from behaviour which deviates from ethical and professional standards which undermine public trust.
