We have won a compensation claim for a man who was bitten by a police dog at a football match
A football agent who was bitten by a police dog has recovered compensation after we pursued a claim on his behalf.
Our specialist dog bite department assisted the innocent man in a claim against the Met following a police dog bite suffered at a Millwall football match.
Our client was attending the match against Everton in his capacity as a football agent rather than as a supporter and was there with another football agent.
The incident occurred as the man was walking with the crowd towards the entrance of the stadium. Without any warning a police dog suddenly bit him on his right flank.
While police dogs are trained to release on command, the police dog handler was unable to get his dog to release our client. It required the assistance of another police officer to forcibly remove the dog.
Following the incident he contacted our specialist dog bite team who are experienced in dealing with police dog cases. His claim was taken on by dog bite lawyer, Jasmine Moxey-Butler. Jasmine, who is recommended by the independent Legal 500 guide to the law, offered to deal with the case on a no win – no fee basis, meaning that he didn’t risk facing a large legal bill.
We presented the claim to the legal department for the Met. They responded by alleging that as part of crowd control on the day a number of males had to be pushed back having tried to, “rush through the dogs”. The police alleged that our client was one of the group of males who attempted to run through and as a result was, “held by the police dog.”
The police allegations were strongly denied. After some pressure from us the Met released bodycam footage. This didn’t support the police’s allegations and showed our client simply following the line of traffic at a reasonable pace.
Also in the footage an officer is heard stating to him, “It’’s only a little pinch mate”.
We lodged papers with the court on our client’s behalf and shortly after settled the claim out of court with our client receiving a compensation payment.
