Real-life case study of a successful compensation claim for a woman who was stalked by a police officer
Our team has recovered compensation on behalf of a woman who was stalked by a police officer.
The woman called the police one evening following a dispute with her neighbour over parking. The officer in question attended our client’s home and this ultimately led to a relationship forming between them.
After the relationship broke down, the police officer continued to contact our client and attempted to visit her home, despite our client’s request to be left alone.
The officer then abused his police powers by using police resources to stalk our client. He would visit her home and place of work in uniform to harass her. After blocking his number, the officer called our client using his police telephone.
On one occasion, our client received a knock on her front door from an unknown police officer. After answering the door, the police officer stepped aside revealing the officer who had been stalking her. When the other officer removed himself from the scene, the officer in question grabbed our client’s face and begged for her to take him back.
Our client was initially too frightened to report this harassment due to the officer being employed by the police and thought she would not be believed.
After finally finding the courage to report the matter, the officer was arrested and suspended from his policing duties. The matter proceeded to trial and the officer received a suspended sentence for the stalking and the harassment of our client.
The police are now commencing misconduct proceedings against the officer.
Specialist abuse lawyer, Carly Sylvester, pursued a compensation claim for our client’s traumatic ordeal on a No Win, No Fee basis. This resulted in Carly’s client accepting an out of court a settlement of £17,000.
